Introduction

We usually think that money is earned through hard work. But there is additional force that is also responsible for earning money. We do not have control over that force and that force is luck. 

A person sets up a startup but either he/she encounters success or he/she encounters failure. These instances prove that luck plays a crucial role in becoming rich. There is complexity of world which dictates whether 100% of your actions will result in 100% of your outcomes or not.

Though we study MBA(Commerce) related books and gain knowledge about finances, but that is not enough without gaining real world experience.

What is luck?

Luck is more inclined towards psychology than possibility that means luck is positive attitude that is gateway to new opportunities and chances in life. It can be perceived as an uncontrollable force that has influence on events in life. Such is the power of luck that two equally skilled persons end up differently in their pursuit of their career. In the case of wealth, luck indicates as to be in right place at the right time, encountering unanticipated oppurtunities. Famous Hindi film music composer O.P. Nayyar, who was a strong believer in the “Time” factor; qouted, “Adami ka waqt chalata hai, adami nahi chalata”. Though some degree of talent is important to become successful in life, but still these talented people are being overtaken by mediocre but appreciably lucky individuals.

1.       Four men when they were in their thirties were adjuring outside a lottery shop in the western port city of Brest. Suddenly a departing customer gave them a scratch card which was bought for one euro. To the surprise of four men, the four men discovered that they won 50,000 euros turning the four beggars into lucky indiciduals.

2.       A 57-year old woman named Glenda Blackwell of Leister in North Carolina, who wanted to teach her husband a lesson about wasting money on the lottery ended up becoming lucky by winning a 1$ million on a lottery ticket.

3.       Deepak Kanakraju’s blog named BikeAdvice, though became No.1 motorcycle blog in India with 1,00,000+ followers and 1 Million+ page views per month, sold this blog in 2012. Now his Micro Freelancer Program, along with his new company MicroStartup are running very successfully earning lots of money.

4.       Bill Gates and Paul Allen, whose Microsoft became successful, experienced one in a million luck getting ended up at Lakeside. On the otherside, Kent Evans, who always had the big briefcase, like a lawyer’s briefcase, died in a mountaineering accident. If this had not occurred, then Kent could have become a founding partner of Microsoft alongwith Gates and Allen.

5.       An Australian man whose name was Bill Morgan (born 1961) won a AU$250,000 scratchcard in May 1999 in front of Nine News while they were filming his previous AU$30,000 scratchcard win for a news report.

Luck and risk are siblings and are so similar that you cannot believe in one without equally respecting the other. They both occur as the world is too complex to allow 100% of your actions dictate 100% of your outcomes.
