Dependence of money on luck and dealing with failures

Introduction

We usually think that money is earned through hard work. But there is additional force that is also responsible for earning money. We do not have control over that force and that force is luck.

A person sets up a startup but either he/she encounters success or he/she encounters failure. These instances prove that luck plays a crucial role in becoming rich. There is complexity of world which dictates whether 100% of your actions will result in 100% of your outcomes or not.

Though we study MBA(Commerce) related books and gain knowledge about finances, but that is not enough without gaining real world experience.

This blogpost will help you not only in understanding dependence of money on luck, but also developing positive mindset while dealing with failures.

What is luck?

Luck is more inclined towards psychology than possibility that means luck is positive attitude that is gateway to new opportunities and chances in life. It can be perceived as an uncontrollable force that has influence on events in life. Such is the power of luck that two equally skilled persons end up differently in their pursuit of their career. In the case of wealth, luck indicates as to be in right place at the right time, encountering unanticipated oppurtunities. Famous Hindi film music composer O.P. Nayyar, who was a strong believer in the “Time” factor; qouted, “Adami ka waqt chalata hai, adami nahi chalata”. Though some degree of talent is important to become successful in life, but still these talented people are being overtaken by mediocre but appreciably lucky individuals.

5 other examples where money is dependent on luck

1.       Four men when they were in their thirties were adjuring outside a lottery shop in the western port city of Brest. Suddenly a departing customer gave them a scratch card which was bought for one euro. To the surprise of four men, the four men discovered that they won 50,000 euros turning the four beggars into lucky indiciduals.

4.       Bill Gates and Paul Allen, whose Microsoft became successful, experienced one in a million luck getting ended up at Lakeside. On the otherside, Kent Evans, who always had the big briefcase, like a lawyer’s briefcase, died in a mountaineering accident. If this had not occurred, then Kent could have become a founding partner of Microsoft alongwith Gates and Allen.

5.       An Australian man whose name was Bill Morgan (born 1961) won a AU$250,000 scratchcard in May 1999 in front of Nine News while they were filming his previous AU$30,000 scratchcard win for a news report.

Qoutes while dealing with failures

Luck and risk are siblings and are so similar that you cannot believe in one without equally respecting the other. They both occur as the world is too complex to allow 100% of your actions dictate 100% of your outcomes. When judging financial success both your own and other’s, it’s never as good or as bad as it seems. Like this there are other quotes that help you deal failures, these are:

1.       “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”

2.       “Don’t carry your mistakes around with you. Instead use them as stepping stones to rise above them”.

3.       “Early success is a scam great things take time”.

4.       “No matter how many times I fall, I will still rise”.

5.       “Your future needs you your past doesn't”.

6.       “One day you will thank yourself for never giving up”.

7.       “The number one skill in life is not giving up”.

8.       “A man who is a master of patience is master of everything else”.

9.       “You don't need to wait for permission to succeed”

10.   “Even if we failed yesterday we can try again today”.

11.   “My story is not over until I win”

12.   “Be patient. Sometimes you have to go through the worst to get to the best”

13.   “We fall. We break. We fail. But then, We rise We heal We overcome”

14.   “A winner is just a loser who tried one more time”

15.   “Be proud of yourself for how hard you are trying”

16.   “To appreciate the Sun you gotta know what a storm is”

17.   “Slow success builds character, fast success builds ego”.

18.   “You can’t let your failures define you. You have to let your failures teach you”-Barack Obama

Conclusion

Though luck is held responsible for success(financial), which can be demoralizing, but with hard work, preparation, and a positive mindset, we can achieve success. Let opportunity meet your preparation then you will reach success.

Loneliness leads to decrease in functionality of our immune systems thus putting us at increased risk to develop all kinds of illnesses and diseases.

By reading this blogpost, you will be able to conquer and manage loneliness and use loneliness to your advantage.

12 ideas that help to cope with loneliness

The 12 ideas that help to deal with loneliness and turn loneliness to your advantage are:

1.       Change your perspective of loneliness: We often view loneliness in dark sense, but when introspected, loneliness can sometimes serve as a root cause for personal growth and self-discovery. While loneliness can become uncomfortable and painful, it cannot be inescapably deemed a negative experience. When perceived through the lens of personal growth, it can even be seen as a chance to know yourself better and nurture deeper relations with others.

2.       Accepting self-love throughout the time of loneliness: Self-love serves as a ray of hope in the time of loneliness. It worked as a gentle reminder that the feelings of loneliness did not depict your worth or explain your existence.

Self-love is not about suppressing your feelings of loneliness, it is about being cognizant of these feelings without being judged. It is about extending yourself the same sympathy and understanding that you would have provided to your friend or acquaintance in a similar situation.

3.       Embrace your loneliness: Learn to enjoy your own company by becoming busy in the activities that you would love like playing games, internet surfing, etc. In this way you will be able to create your own space, your safe heaven where you could be yourself without any faking. You will also become self-sufficient.

4.       Create a safe space on social media. Consider other options for virtual connection, like starting a new group text or Facebook group with our closest friends. Targeted communications from close friends can have the most positive impact and help beat loneliness. It is human to reachout to others.

5.       Make a point to sit down and have lunch or dinner with a close friend to talk about how we’re really doing – and how they are, too. Check in with a parent, sibling or other family member and arrange a visit to them.  Call someone whom you haven’t heard for a long time and engage with him/her in a meaningful conversation.

6.       Forge a new kind of relationship with a plant, a book, a pet - anything that lights up your heart in a real way.

7.       You should go on self-dates as it is a powerful tool to learn how to be happy alone. You can sit for 10 minutes in a coffee shop or go to see movie or go to play video games in video game parlour. Become observant and get involve in your surroundings. Once you become comfortable with that, you will become habitual to go out alone.

8.       Try something new that we never got to do – alone: It's time to do the thing we always wanted but never go to do. We're talking bigger than hobbies. Go for the once-in-a-lifetime stuff like skydiving, a solo trip to another country, or backpacking in the woods! You can also visit nearby town, attend a local festival like Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations or Dusshehra celebrations, buy a ticket to a concert. You can go on long drive.

9.       Engage yourself in creative activities: You should try something novel and distinct, which can be outside your comfort zone. Learn to play an instrument or learn problem solving skill, paint a landscape or do mirror painting, or write a short story or learn content writing. Try it by yourself or enroll in digital marketing or app development class.

If you don’t like it, you can remove it from your list and give a trial to something else.

10.   Grab the advantage of being alone: This can be done by occupying the entire kitchen to cook a tasty meal which you know how to cook it so that you can munch on it, put on your favourite music and dance like no one is watching or try to get back into an old hobby like mechanical art.

11.   Take into consideration things that you are grateful for: Though it is natural to take things for granted, devote sometime to reflect upon the things you are grateful for as this will amplify your feelings of happiness and hopefulness. They need not to be spectacular or astonishing things. They can be simple as the first cup of green tea or coffee in the morning or your favourite song you play over and over as it calms your nerves or having instagram followers more than 1000.  Create a list, whether it is mental or physical, of the things that you have appreciation for in your life. The next time when feelings of loneliness engulfs you and you feel down/low, then read this list to give a reminder to yourself of everything you possess.

12.   Allow your mind to wander: This can be done by closing your eyes and darken the room, dribbling a basketball, washing dishes or playing with stress toys for adults. You should let your mind to wander in true manner and notice where it takes you. Don’t get dishearten if it doesn’t carry you very far in the beginning. With the passage of time, your mind will get into the habit of this new liberty.

Conclusion

These ideas will help you fight loneliness and minimize the effects of loneliness on you and your mental health.

Navigating Toxic Positivity: Finding Balance and Authenticity

Navigating Toxic Positivity: Finding Balance and Authenticity

Introduction

I am sure you will agree with me with the fact that you came across the idea of staying positive in every situation. But is it really the solution to all of your problems.

Though the positive outlook is not wrong. But compulsion to stay only positive may cause ignorance to serious problems or not convey the fundamental mental health issues. This is only one side of a coin.

Another side of the coin is that persons who are under pressure to smile in spite of adversity may become less susceptible to seek support. They may have feeling of isolation or have feeling of shame about their feelings, discouraging them from seeking help. In accordance with the American Psychiatric Association, stigma can discourage an individual from searching for mental health treatment.

Failure to talk about emotions like anxiety, anger and sadness which occur due to loss or mistreatment will not force them to go away. Simply discussing these emotions decrease their power to dominate over person’s mind, thus aiding a person feel less surrounded by them.

In this post I will discuss about how to dismantle toxic positivity and also how you can acquire optimism.

What is toxic positivity?

Toxic positivity can be described as preoccupation or mania for positive thinking. Toxic positivity forces people to fake their happiness despite the fact that they are fighting with their sadness and grief deep in their minds.

Toxic positivity is not real, it is an illusion as it is the assumption that you ought to possess a positive mindset and that everything is all right but actually it is not.

With toxic positivity, negative emotions are deemed to be inherently bad. Instead of this, positivity and happiness are forced on to a person, and real human emotional experiences are subjected to denial or subjected to invalidation.

Toxic positivity distract us from the problem we are currently facing and avoids space and time for self- compassion which is necessary for our mental health. Toxic positivity also distract us from the actual solution to our problems.

Difference between Toxic positivity and genuine optimism

The main difference between toxic positivity and genuine optimism is that toxic positivity is emotional avoidance while genuine positivity never puts reality into denial. Genuine positivity brings your real pain into acknowledgement as well as gives experience of authentic positive emotions like love, inspiration and hope. In brief toxic positivity is hope without accepting reality while genuine optimism is positivity rooted with reality and also is positivity that accepts the negative emotions like pain and sadness that means there is room for empathy in genuine optimism. It’s discovering resilience, bravery, and personal responsibility in unpleasant situations.

While resilience is a sign of genuine optimism and you have a thinking that even good things can result from adverse events and you have a feeling that good things will occur in future, the signs of toxic positivity include feeling guilty with regard to your feelings and trying to get over it by disallowing negative emotions and feeling shameful and frustrated of being unable to maintain your optimism

Toxic positivity examples

The examples of toxic positivity are:

1.       1.Suppose you share your problem with your friend and then he/she says that everything happens for a reason

2.       2.Suppose you had a breakup with your girlfriend and you tell this to your friend and then he/she says that you will get over it.

3.       3.Advising someone to direct their focus on positive side of a devastating loss for instance death of a near and dear one.

4.       4.Identifying someone who always seem positive or do not express their emotions as being stronger or more agreeable than others.

5.       5.Advising someone to welcome new happiness amidst loss of a near and dear one.

6.        6.Toxic positivity quotes like “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, “You are who you are because of what happened to you”, “Anger is never the answer”, “Just be positive!” are examples of toxic positivity.

7.       7.When a person tells his friend that he is sad because of not getting promotion or hike in salary, then his friend tells him that it is not as bad as it appears.

8.       8.Asking people to prosper no matter what hardship they are facing.

Toxic positivity in the workplace

Toxic positivity is the principle that employees ought to concentrate on positive emotions and do not allow negative feelings in the workplace. When the values and behaviours are designed in such a way that becomes the root cause of “toxic positivity”, this is called as ‘corporate gaslighting’. This makes people belief that their own intuitive response is not acceptable. A toxic positivity demands being enthusiastic and upbeat in spite of the menacing situation. Even though everything goes wrong, you are not permitted to display anything which seems to be negative. An excess of positivity can cause significant harm to mental health of employees and thus to the company.

In the work environment accompanied by toxic positivity, people are concerned mainly with the bright side and avoid the negative topics and news. This gives the feeling of everything being fine when it is actually not. Ups and downs and areas of improvement always occur. Example is when, during the tough time, leaders inform their workforce that there is nothing to be worried about and the company is still performing great. But then they shut offices down.

How to deal with toxic positivity?

Some strategies which are helpful in avoiding toxic positivity which is self-imposed include:

·         1.recognizing negative emotions as natural and a necessary section of the human experience

·         2.you have to identify and name emotions instead of trying to avoid them

·         3.you need to talk to trusted people about negative feelings(emotions).

·         4.you need to seek support from trusted friends or a therapist who do not judge your emotions

Other methods of dealing with toxic positivity are:

·          1.You need to take a lapse of time from social media

·         2.Surrounding yourself with good(positive) people is necessary.

·         3.You should not ignore your emotions

·         4.One of the ways to counter toxic positivity is to create a room where all the emotions are authenticated and welcomed.

·         5.You should be realistic about your feelings

·         6.You should remember that it is ok not to be ok.

·         7.You should recognize toxic positivity messages like “Positive vibes only,” “Choose happiness,” etc. These messages dismiss other genuine emotions.

Conclusion

When we ignore difficult emotions, these feelings get intensified and takes the shape of toxic positivity.

It’s impossible for a person to think positively all the time.

Someone cannot be forced to exhibit only positive emotions as it can make them feel bad about themselves as they have negative thoughts.

Solopreneur: a deep insight

                                            Solopreneur: a deep insight

Introduction

Now a days unemployment is at boom. Jobs are less corresponding to talent people possess. Not only this some are facing ill treatment during their jobs. “It’s not personal, Sonny. It’s strictly business.” This famous line from The Godfather misses the point: even in business, it hurts when your coworkers show their dislike for you. Whatever their reasons—they may feel threatened, they could be jealous, perhaps they’re simply not very nice, or maybe the problem is you—it’s hard not to take personal disdain personally.

“Of course, it’s impossible to be liked by everyone in the office,” says Lynn Taylor, a national workplace expert and the author of “Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant: How to Manage Childish Boss Behaviour and Thrive in Your Job.”

While there are co-workers who would not mind letting you feel the hatred towards you, many are there who can easily hide their hatred. “Most co-workers won’t overtly show their disdain for you so as not to cause trouble or jeopardize their careers,” explains Lynn. Bitter hatred inside wrapped with sweet words is very common in the workplace. [H.A.T.E.R.S(having anger towards everyone reaching success)]. Remember that who you are today and what your achievements are till today are results of investment that you have made on yourself in form of hardwork. Back in Corona times, many people became jobless and some started working from their homes.

According to the State of Independence Report by MBO Partners in 2022, 64.6 million independent workers were reported in the U.S., as compared to 26% from the previous year. Moreover, 64% of these self-employed individuals expressed their satisfaction and confidence about their career choice. With the rise in opportunities for the independent workers in the future, the journey as a solopreneur is able to offer the sought-after flexibility to the aspirants who are interested in creating a business around their lifestyle.

What is solopreneur?

A solopreneur can be defined as the one who is wholely and solely responsible for organization, management, and bears the risks of a business or an enterprise without any external help. In other words, a solopreneur is an individual who puts up their business independently and is responsible for its success or failure. A solopreneur is both the boss and employee of their business.

When a person chooses to be a solopreneur, he is not accountable to any boss for any profit or any loss of his company. Nor a person who chooses to be a solopreneur does not work under any boss.

Benefits of becoming a solopreneur

People all over the world are preferring solopreneurship rather than doing work for someone else. Many wish to operate a business, but neither they have desire nor they have enough money in order to build an empire. They are selecting to operate solo businesses instead.

The benefits are:

1.       Satisfaction with the job

Tired of working a job you don’t enjoy? Go solo. Solopreneurs enjoy greater freedom to carry on the work they go happy with—and are free to say no to that work which they don’t like resulting in the greater job satisfaction for majority of solopreneurs.

2.       Control which you possess over your business strategy and decisions

As a solopreneur, as you are business and brand, any resolution or changes in your strategy you prefer to make do not involve anyone else’s profit or loss except you only.

Solo business owners possess the flexibility to make changes quickly and have more freedom to use their creativity in their businesses.

3.       Independence of location

When your business is dependent on you only, it becomes more easy to carry your work along with you and carry on your work from wherever you prefer. Solopreneurs—especially those who do projects online—possess the freedom which leads to their conversion to digital nomads as their businesses are not confined (limited) to a particular location.

4.       You can set your own working hours and no need to stick to 9-5 schedule.

5.       You can also get time to improve your skills and knowledge

How digital marketing leads to Solopreneurship

With the growing menace of unemployment, lot of degree holders(youth) are forced to sit at home without work. Digital marketing empowers youth to become self-employed thus combating unemployment. Digital marketing also empowers youth to be their own boss.

The income sources from digital marketing are:

1.       Google adsense: When individuals build their own website on blogger, blogger allows them to monetize their website with the aid of google adsense program on blogger. When google adsense approves their blog, their blog starts earning money.

2.       You can sell your notes on Stuvia, Nexus.

3.       Affiliate marketing: By registering on Click bank, individuals get commissions by promoting products on Click bank through their blog. They can also use their qoura account by promoting click bank products through their qoura answers.

4.       Individuals can build their own ecommerce websites thus enlisting their self-made digital products(ebooks) on their online store.

Conclusion

Thus solopreneurship is most preferable over any other types of jobs as it allows us to earn the satisfactory amount of money we deserve.

The Vaccine War 2

                                                              The Vaccine War 2

Introduction

It has been past 4 years that after Covid-19 times, Neeraj is now facing another calamity just like Covid-19 which is White lung syndrome. Neeraj’s mother was suffering from White lung syndrome, which is characterized by white patches all over the lungs. She was experiencing sneezing, a stuffy or runny nose, watery eyes, wheezing, vomiting and diarrhoea. Her condition grew serious, due to this he admitted his mother in ML hospital.

White lung syndrome?

Her mother was also experiencing temperature nearly 103C. Her mother had been administered paracetamol drip nearly 6 times yet her body temperature was not returning to 37C. He asked doctor Gyanendra about his mother’s X-ray report. Gyanendra showed white patches spread on the lungs which are formed due to inflammation and white blood cells which had filled the area. On hearing this, Neeraj remembered that due to this White lung syndrome, his paternal aunt who was near and dear to him died. He do not want that his mother would meet the same fate as he was very close to his mother. The white patches were small in number but can increase if not done something about it.

Pharmacy technician

Dr. Gyanendra contacted his colleague Narendra, who was pharmacy technician in the hospital, and described about Neeraj’s medical condition to him. Dr. Gyanendra also asked to look for antibiotic(antiviral) which would be effective in treating white lung syndrome as white lung syndrome recently spread in America and there is no clue about which antibiotic would be effective in treating White lung syndrome. Narendra looked into this condition and decided to do some research in finding antibiotic suitable to cure this disease.

Difficulty in finding the right medication

Narendra while researching on internet about the antibiotic found that research done about the medication for this disease were few in number. Also, It develops subsequent to a viral or bacterial infection and, in some cases, fungi. Due to this it is getting tougher in finding the right medication which will be effective for virus, bacteria or fungi. The doctors suggested that the outbreak may have been partly driven by bugs which are resistant to antibiotics. There is fear of potential serious side effect of antibiotic that might be cure of this disease.

Severity of white lung syndrome

Inspite of the difficulties in finding the right medication for this disease, Narendra mustered courage to research about the medication for this disease as he found that though the respiratory pathogens are making rounds this cold and flu season, yet the specter of the pandemic has alerted many for the next novel agent. Cases of 'White Lung Syndrome' have risen globally, with some cases reported in Europe, followed by the US and China. The broader type of pneumonia has already reached 'epidemic' levels in Denmark, according to The Mirror.

White Lung Syndrome, has gripped many countries around the world. The Netherlands, meanwhile, has also reported a big spike in children in the country coming down with the illness.

It can cause dangerous inflammation of the lungs and at the moment seems to disproportionately impact children. There have been over 150 recorded cases of pneumonia in the US state of Ohio.

Medical experts suggested antibiotic resistance bacteria might have caused the surge in mycoplasma pneumoniae infections. According to research, published in the journal 'Frontiers in Microbiology', 90% of infections with this bacterium are now resistant to common antibiotics in China.

Doctors told that when antibiotics are used to target bacterial infections, some bacteria may mutate and become resistant to the drugs' effects. These bacteria can multiply rapidly and develop a resistant strain.

Dr. Yin Yudong, an infectious disease doctor at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, told journalists that they have to take various measures to curb antibiotic drug resistance. Otherwise, they risk having no treatments for children.

Carvacrol

Narendra, while researching about the medication for the disease, found that Carvacrol found in oregano decreased the impact of the disease as it was found to be effective against virus and bacteria(fungi). When oregano supplement was administered to Neeraj’s mother it lead to improvements in medical condition of Neeraj’s mother. The patient recovered in a slow manner and walked on her feet. Narendra thought that if proper research done on Carvacrol and Carvacrol derivatives injection developed and tested for white lung syndrome, then White lung syndrome can be cured.

Research to be done

Carvacrol chemical structure had been such that if modifications done and developed antibiotic through this can be revolution in treating white lung syndrome. Narendra contacted Dr. Balram Bhargav, Director of ICMR and told that vaccine need to be developed from Carvacrol. Vaccine formed from Carvacrol along with changes in it can be a useful weapon in eradicating the White lung syndrome. Balram Bhargav thought that this research is a necessary task for the welfare of human beings.
