Ikigai: a method of niche selection in digital marketing
Introduction
There are thousands of digital agencies spread around the world which
are deemed to be experts in catering people’s needs, so you need to find a method
to make your agency stand apart from the pack.
Focusing on a niche is a tested strategy to grow and scale your agency
fast.Getting the niche right early on in your career can make your way easy and
position you as the expert in your industry.
Generalists (the jack of all trades) are those professionals with a
range of skill sets and experiences, but they typically command lower prices as
they are in less demand.
Specialists (experts in a specific skill or niche), on the other hand,
are able to charge higher rates because they’re in demand and much more rare.
Niche should cater to your passion, talent and market opportunity.
About ikigai
Ikigai is the concept from Japan which means one’s ‘reason for being.’
‘Iki’ in Japanese means ‘life,’ and ‘gai’ describes value or worth. Your ikigai
is your purpose of life. It’s what that makes you happy and inspires you to
leave your bed everyday. It’s also a way to find inner happiness.
How ikigai is helpful in niche selection?
What makes rich and happy people stand out from the crowd? They know
their niche. Choosing the right corner is always essential. Bloggers are
required to understand and research upon a niche for their every single
project.
As they say:
Riches stay in Niches
Bloggers need to understand that they need to have a specific niche in
order to avoid hardships in generating more revenue from their blogs, so that
their businesses can cope up with their tight budget, and face no difficulties
to get their "right clients."
A right niche is not about building a blog in health sector or
establishing a pharmaceutical company! If we focus on learning the art of
finding the niche which is perfect for you, you will be more focussed in your
goal setting, and you will get a new perspective to see the opportunities.
So, here is the perfect guide and Japan’s ancient secret, which has
helped people in finding their "purpose" of life.
Ikigai is the meeting point of what people love to do, what they are
good at, what they can be paid well for and what is the product or service or
skill that the world demands. This is how we define ‘niche’ - something you’re
passionate about, is practical from a business perspective (digital marketing),
and does good for the world.
As we go ahead in the project, the energy and passion we have for a
particular niche when we start working on that niche starts to disappear.
Especially, when we are not getting results from it.
It happens with almost everyone!
The lack of clarity in our mind is the main cause behind this happening.
IKIGAI is the explanation of how we find our "perfect niche"
without much complications.
Step 1
Ask Yourself: What Do You Love Most
You should make the list of ten things you can do all the day without boredom.
At least you should make the list of five.
Step 2
Filter The List based on What Are You Good At
You may not have all the skills, but still, filter the list based on
your knowledge you have attained in that topic. The notion behind this exercise
is this: If you love to do a particular work, you will gradually become good at
it.
Step 3
Think: How to get earnings For What You Do
Think all the different methods you can apply to your work so that you
can get earnings for it. For example, if you are enthusiastic about Health and
Fitness, you can teach others about the topics covered in Health and Fitness.
There is no competition when you focus on creativity.
All other options are removed and you should keep at most 3.
Step 4
Filter: Does the World Needs What You Offer?
Doing a job that you love to do is a very good idea. But if nobody needs
it, it's useless. Finding a niche which is in demand brings the sense of
satisfaction. The uncertainty of the market will be cut as everyone will be
interested in availing products and services in that niche.
Finding Market demand
The Analysis of market demand needs research activities to be conducted
to determine:
1.The online demand for your products and services.
2.The key questions your buyers are asking online about your products
and services.
3.Use google Auto suggest.
4.Look for Amazon Reviews.
5.Talk to customers.
6.Who the key influencers are in your market.
7.An evaluation of your social networks and profiles.
8.Your social media reach.
9.Look for pre and post products/services of other products.
10.Your current social engagement.
11.Answer the Public.com.
12.Scratch your own Itch (Ex: BikeAdvice, DigitalDeepak).
